Studio hardware is covered with a Mackie 8 bus routed to a MOTU 24 I/O - AD/DA converter. Outboard gear consists of an Avalon VT 737 preamp/compressor/EQ; DBX compressors, gates and EQs; a BBE processor; Lexicon reverb and various mics including Neuman, Earthworks, AKG, Sennheiser and Shure.
Monitoring is done through Tannoy PBM 8s and a Hafler 2400. Additional monitoring can be through EV 15" P.A. speakers and/or a pair of Polk Audio NHT 6 stereo speakers or through headphones of course. Surround mixing and monitoring is available.
The studio is set up as a control room with one isolation booth in it, usually reserved for drums. There is a separate mixer set up in the booth with 12 inputs from 12 separate sources available, including an ambient room mic. The drums currently residing there are a 6 piece Ludwig Vistalite kit with Zildjian cymbals. This can be removed depending on the nature of the project to accomodate another kit or simply to be used as a vocal or instrument iso booth. Keyboards are available for use as well and include a Kurzweil K-2000 and piano module, a Korg Prophecy and Korg weighted controller. Cubase supports MIDI and there are numerous VSTi in the computer able to be controlled from any keyboard. Groove Agent computer drum module is also available for those who wish to program their beats or use the "intelligent drummer" within Groove Agent.
Sourland Mountains Studio is primarily run by Arthur Dorety of DBM services. Chris and Art are both available to assist in instrumentation if needed. A relaxed and productive atmosphere is the goal here. To achieve that end we employ a smoke, drug and alcohol free policy. Being mentally impaired is not conducive to a recording environment and is a waste of your time as well as ours. Cigarettes are allowed outside.
Both Art and Chris have a laid back and easy going demeanor. Arthur started as a live sound engineer in 1989 and both Art and Chris have been doing studio work since the mid/ late 90s. Best of all we have competitve rates typically lower than other area studios, but use the same equipment as big expensive studios (they just have more of it).
Space is slightly limited: 15' x 25' with a 6' x 8' iso room, but if you're a small band, duo, solo artist, have a small project or just need a place to do some overdubs, contact us. We have been using Cubase in all its incarnations since 1998 so we are experienced and have a great attention to detail and editing. We have all the needs for mastering too. So Sourland Mountains Recording Studio is the one and only stop before sending your work to the manufacturer.
